A new adventure awaits – The 5th Kids Film Festival

Between 22nd and 30th of September 2018, 21 cities in Poland will host The 5th Kids Film Festival. “A new adventure awaits” is this year’s motto, reflecting the energetic diversity of the festival’s films. Our programme for Warsaw and Wroclaw includes screenings of 130 films, a colorful Indian cinema section, film adaptations of the best of children’s and youth literature. The audience across Poland will have a chance to watch 8 titles from the Main Competition. The Kids Film Festival is more than just watching the movies: the screenings will be accompanied by meetings with creators and special guests, as well as workshops for both children and adults.

Film program

The Kids Film Festival includes two competition sections. The first one, Main Competition, consists of 8 titles that will compete for the Fern Flower Prize granted by jury teams and audience from the whole country.

This year, the films of the Main Competition will be judged also by the ECFA jury.

These are full-length productions, both feature and animated films recommended for particular age categories.

Beginning from this year’s edition, we have also prepared a brand new Film Discovery Competition,  presenting the genre and stylistic diversity of films for young audience, while also taking a look at new, challenging cinema.

Films from the Main Competition and Film Discovery Competition section and a few films of Namaste – Indian cinema will be screened with English subtitles.

In Warsaw and Wroclaw, the films have been divided into sections. All bookworms will be delighted with the section “The Cinema of the Kids With their Noses in Books”, consisting of film adaptations of modern and classic literature for children. The short stories section will prove that sometimes less is more. “I’m Five Years Old” section is going to be one great birthday party – celebrating The Kids Film Festival turning five; here we will show the most important films from previous years. “Panorama” is a presentation of our winners from the past year and the newest productions from Polish and European cinemas dedicated to young spectators. As every year, the festival presents the films grouped in special national section. We have already shown the movies from Norway, Germany, France, Czech Republic, and Japan. This year in the “Namaste – Indian Cinema” section we invite you to take a colourful and incredible journey through the Indian cinema. The screenings will be accompanied by the events presenting the beauty of Indian culture.

The Kids Film on upbringing

The Kids Film Festival continues the series of events about upbringing addressed to adult participants: parents, teachers, and educators. The program will include lectures and workshops on how to show that school is not so bad and how to use the power of stories in working with pupils.

The Kids Film Festival is one of the largest film festivals for young viewers in Poland. Last year’s edition, as one of three film festivals in Poland, was co-financed by the Creative Europe program. The Kids Film Festival has a growing loyal audience and draws attention to the huge demand for movies that increase sensitivity among children in Poland – almost 25,000 spectators took part in the event last year.

The New Horizons Association buys long term rights for Poland for all movies of the main competition. After the premiere at the festival the movies are distributed on a regular basis, and for the next few years they are shown in theaters in over 50 cities as a part of the educational program organized by the Association.

Another initiative related to the Festival and the Warsaw Kids Film Forum is Kids Film.Pro, a program which supports the development of full-length films for children, with the involvement of international tutors.

The Kids Film Festival (Festiwal Filmowy Kino Dzieci) is organized by Education Department of New Horizons Association, Poland.
